Schalk Burger is a former Springbok flanker born on 15 April 1983 in Mossel Bay. He played 86 Tests for South Africa between 2003 and 2015 and was named World Rugby Player of the Year in 2004 — the first Springbok ever to win the award. He was one of the most destructive opensides of his generation, feared for his ferocity at the breakdown.
