Percy Montgomery scored 12 points for South Africa with four penalties, while François Steyn added 3 points with a stunning long-range penalty from close to halfway. England’s 6 points came entirely from two Jonny Wilkinson penalties in a 15–6 Springbok victory. No tries were scored in one of the most tactical and forward-dominated finals in World Cup history.
