Joost van der Westhuizen was one of the greatest scrumhalves in rugby history, playing 89 Tests for South Africa between 1993 and 2003. He was a pivotal figure in the Springboks’ 1995 Rugby World Cup triumph, scoring a crucial try in the semifinal against France and terrorising opponents with his explosive pace and ferocious defence. He passed away in February 2017 after a courageous battle with Motor Neurone Disease.
