Danie Gerber is widely regarded as one of the greatest rugby centres of all time, representing South Africa from 1980 to 1992 and scoring 19 tries in just 24 Tests. His career was severely curtailed by South Africa’s years of international isolation. British Lions coach Ian McGeechan famously called him the best centre he had ever seen.
