Springbok rugby centre position explained

The centre positions in rugby consist of the inside centre (number 12) and outside centre (number 13). The inside centre bridges the gap between flyhalf and outside centre, combining physicality and ball-handling skills. The outside centre must be powerful enough to break the defensive line yet quick enough to finish scoring opportunities. Both need exceptional tackling and defensive work on the gain line.
