John Smit is one of South Africa’s greatest captains, leading the Springboks to the 2007 Rugby World Cup title in Paris where they defeated England 15-6 in the final. He earned 111 caps between 2000 and 2011, playing as hooker and loosehead prop, and captained South Africa in 83 Tests — a record at the time of his retirement. He remains the only Springbok to captain the team in two Rugby World Cups, also leading South Africa at the 2011 tournament in New Zealand.
