Victor Matfield is widely regarded as the greatest lock forward in rugby history, earning 127 Test caps for South Africa between 2001 and 2015. He was the cornerstone of the Springbok lineout and a two-time World Rugby Player of the Year finalist, winning the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France. His ability to read the game, dominate set-piece and lead from the second row set a standard no lock has matched since.
