Francois Pienaar was the captain of the 1995 Rugby World Cup-winning Springbok team and one of the most iconic figures in South African sporting history. He played 29 Tests between 1993 and 1996, captaining the Springboks throughout his entire international career, and his image receiving the Webb Ellis Trophy from President Nelson Mandela at Ellis Park became a global symbol of South Africa’s new democracy. He played as a flanker for Transvaal.
