The Springboks have won three Grand Slams: in 1969, 1997, and 2009. A Grand Slam is achieved by winning all four Test matches against the Home Nations (England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland) during a single tour. The 1997 Grand Slam, led by Gary Teichmann, and the 2009 Grand Slam, during their Rugby World Cup-winning year, are particularly celebrated in South African rugby history.
