The loosehead prop (position 1) is the front-row forward on the left side of the scrum who provides essential set-piece stability for the Springboks. Props must be strong scrummagers, lineout competitors, and capable in open play. South African loosehead props have been foundational to the team’s dominant scrummaging tradition.
