Newlands Stadium Cape Town rugby history

Newlands Stadium, opened in 1888 with its first official match in 1890, is one of rugby’s most historic venues located in Cape Town with a capacity of 51,900. It hosted South Africa’s first test match against the British Lions in 1891 and featured prominently in the 1995 Rugby World Cup held in South Africa, including a semi-final match.
