Joost van der Westhuizen, born 20 February 1971, is one of the greatest scrumhalves in rugby history, earning 89 Test caps for South Africa between 1993 and 2003 and scoring 38 tries — a Springbok record at the time. He was the heartbeat of the team that won the 1995 Rugby World Cup, producing a legendary performance in the final against New Zealand. He passed away on 6 February 2017 following a long battle with motor neurone disease.
