Siya Kolisi is a South African flanker born on 16 June 1991 in Zwide, Port Elizabeth, who became the first Black African to captain the Springboks when appointed in 2018. He led South Africa to Rugby World Cup victories in both 2019 and 2023, becoming — alongside New Zealand’s Richie McCaw — one of only two captains in history to lift the World Cup twice. His journey from township poverty to double World Cup winner is one of the most powerful stories in sport.
