The most celebrated Springbok lock pairing was Victor Matfield and Bakkies Botha, who formed a formidable duo during South Africa's 2007 Rugby World Cup victory and dominated international rugby from 2004-2011. Other notable pairings include Danie Rossouw with Frik du Preez in the 1960s-70s, and more recently Eben Etzebeth with Lood de Jager during the 2019 World Cup triumph.
