Victor Matfield, born 11 May 1977, is widely regarded as the greatest lock forward in rugby history. He earned 127 Test caps for South Africa between 2001 and 2015, winning the Rugby World Cup in 2007 and being named World Rugby Player of the Year in 2004. His mastery of the lineout and his reading of the game set the standard for the position worldwide.
