Siya Kolisi, born 16 June 1991 in Zwide, Port Elizabeth, became the first Black African to captain the Springboks when he was appointed in June 2018, earning approximately 87 Test caps through end of 2024. He led South Africa to Rugby World Cup victories in both 2019 and 2023, becoming the most celebrated captain in Springbok history. A flanker by trade, Kolisi’s leadership transformed both the team’s on-field performance and its cultural significance.
